GiveAway Date: June 11th, 1999
Prize: Phase 6 Chevy Bow Tie Cylinderheads

Winner: Ron Mortimer

Age: 41

Resides: Tehachapi, CA

Profession: Auto Technician and Shop Manager.

Ron has been interested in automotive performance for over 30 years. He has applied his technical talents toward building four circle track cars, five drag cars, and numerous street vehicles, including three street rods! Ron is actively involved in drag racing with this 1963 Plymouth Belvedere that runs in the low eleven's at over 119mph. Ron plans on using his new Phase 6 heads on a front-engine dragster that he will run in Super Comp and Pro ET.

These Phase 6 heads are the shortest path to ultimate small block Chevy power without resorting to raised ports. 55cc chambers, high-flow ports, undrilled pushrods holes (to optimize intake porting), and much more make these $1200 heads quite a prize.

GiveAway Date: July 9th, 1999
Prize: Chevy Gear Drive

Winner: Roger Marcet

Age: 53

Resides: Tucson, Arizona

Profession: Mechanical designer.

Roger has been working on cars for almost 40 years. He built his first engine at the tender age of 15. He's lost track of every project, but some of the more memorable ones are two '57 Chevys, a '57 Chevy truck, a '62 Pontiac, and five (5!) '57 Fords. The last one was just sold to make room for a '66 Buick Skylark.
Over the years Roger raced an alcohol dragster and a sprint car. Recently he's considered the "Silver State Challenge" in Nevada. He may use the '66 Buick in that event.
Roger has always loved engines. He even owned an engine building service for a while. While he's not sure how he's going to use the gear drive (his wife is afraid he'll start another project with it!), after thinking about it awhile, he said "You know, that might just be a good place to start."

This Summers Brothers gear drive is the ultimate in quality and strength. It will maintain optimum cam timing on any Smallblock Chevy race engine. Original value over $500.

Winner: Mark Hayes

Age: 28

Resides: Puyallup, WA

Profession: Professional driver.

Mark has been involved with automotive performance and racing "ever since he discovered adrenaline." He raced a circle-track prepped '79 Cutlass in Streetstock, but they're dosing his local track, so now he's more of spectator. He describes fender-to-fender racing with this comment, "If you think going straight and fast is a kick, try going fast, turning left 180-degrees, and doing it 3-inches from the car next to you!"

This Bo Laws Cam-Drive Cover Kit solves the "cam-walk" problem in Smallblock Chevys. The cover is a strong, lightweight, two-piece unit with an adjustable thrust button. Value over $100.
